TCO earns top seed in league playoffs
Regular season champion Twin Cities Orthopedics (12-4-2) earned the top seed in the Upper Midwest High School Elite League playoffs and opens with a 6 p.m. quarterfinal game against No. 8 seed Team North Dakota (1-2-0) on Friday at New Hope Ice Arena.
All four quarterfinal games are set for Friday with No. 2 seed The Base (11-6-1) playing No. 7 seed TDS Transportation (1-17-0) at 5:30 p.m., No. 3 seed MAP South (8-7-3) playing No. 6 seed MSP Magazine (6-9-3) at 8 p.m. and No. 4 seed Spade Landscaping (6-6-6) playing No. 5 seed Team Wisconsin (6-9-3) at 8:30 p.m.
All playoff games are held at New Hope Ice Arena’s North and South rinks and streamed by MNHockey.TV. The semifinals and consolation semifinals are set for Saturday and all four championship round games will be held Sunday. The championship game is set for noon on Sunday on the North rink.
Twin Cities Orthopedics led the league with 101 goals and a plus-25 goal differential. Two of the league’s top three scorers play for TCO, including Brent Solomon of Champlin Park, who led the league with 36 points, including a league-best 25 goals. Solomon, a senior who recently committed to Wisconsin, helped TCO go 8-1-1 to close out the regular season.
The Base allowed 76 goals in the regular season, tied with Twin Cities Orthopedics for fewest in the league. The Base finished just behind TCO in goals scored with 99 and in goal differential with plus-23.
The league playoff champion will receive The Founder’s Cup in recognition of John Russo, who was instrumental in getting the league up and running in 2002. Russo passed away in 2023.
